The Manifestations of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The gifts of the HS are miraculous; they bring into our midst the presence and power of God. This is what we are needing so greatly in the Church today. God in might manifestation.

These gifts, being from the HS are as high above natural gifts as the heavens are high above the earth.

When a person manifests a natural gift he receives credit for it; but when the gifts of the HS are in manifestation God receives the Glory. This makes such a difference.

1 Cor 12:1-11 (Scripture Reference of the Gifts)

Don’t be ignorant

Paul said I would not have you ignorant concerning these gifts.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are legacy to the church. They are gifts which our blessed Lord gave us when he died upon the cross of Calvary. He poured out the holy spirit from heaven when he ascended, and enriched his church with gifts of the Spirit of God. A legacy indeed and who is not interested in legacies!

If someone that passed away gave you his will, his legacy,, would you possess it or ignore it. You would possess it.

Jesus left us his will, his legacy. He has left us gifts of the holy ghost and we ought not to be ignorant but we have to possess what is ours.

Many people in the church are ignorant concerning the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Diversities of Spirit but same Spirit

1 Cor 12:4

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same spirit.

It is the same spirit that causes all these things to function

Example/water: The origin is water

You could have water in a glass. You could have water in a lump. That’s water turned into an ice cube. There’s water coming down as frozen drops of water or hail. What is frost? Simply water in another manifestation. How diverse these are, in a given temperature, they will flow as water.

You now have an illustration of the verse.

Differences of admin

1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.”

Gifts of the ministry are apostles, prophets, Evangelists, pastors, and teachers.

How different are these services and ministrations.

All different But the same Lord.

What is the difference between ministry gifts and the gifts of the Spirit?

The Lord Jesus gives spiritually endowed (spiritually equips and gives the ability) to ministers for the building up of his church, and the Holy Spirit gives his manifestations to these ministers for the work to which they are called.

Diversities of operations

1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.”

‭‭

The gifts function differently in each individual.

There is a differetnce in operations. We have the power of God working through a body with Sampson we have the power of God moving through a rod with Moses and a mantle with Elijah.

Same God but diverse in operation

To Profit All of Us

‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭12:7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:”

Which means that the manifestation is given for the general good of everybody.

He gave them to us that we might be a blessing to countless people, for the general good, for the community and of the church.

The 9 Gifts of the spirit

“For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:8-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Desire to see the manifestations of the gifts of the spirit

The division of the nine gifts into three groupings – gifts of revelation (reveal something) (word of Wisdom, word of knowledge, discerning of spirits) gifts of power (do something) (gift of faith, gift of working miracles, gifts of healing) and gifts of inspiration (praophecy, speaking in tongues, interpretation of tongues, and)

Question

Are these gifts found in the Old Testament as well as the new? The first 7 are found in the old but the last two are not: divers kinds of tongues and the interpretation of tongues:”

They were given for the church age.

When the children of Israel were gathered around the tabernacle, the Lord manifested himself in the pillar of cloud in the supernatural evidence was visible to all in the camp that was there in the Old Testament.

Today his people are scattered throughout the world and so the evidence of the supernatural presence must be a personal one through tongues, possessed by each member of the church where ever he may be.

Tongues will terminate when we enter into the presence of the Lord. When we see him face-to-face so it will no longer be required. .

Gifts of Revelation: word of wisdom, word of knowledge and discerning of spirits.

Note: In every operation of the revelation gifts, bondage is broken, Jesus is magnified. Scripture is not broken and human flesh is not exalted

Word of Wisdom

Is greatest of all the manifestations of the Spirit of God because it is directive it tells you what God would have you do and there is nothing more important than to be directed by heaven. Oh, may God direct us. God reveals His purpose. It is the revelation in the mind or purpose of God for the future.

Ex/The Lord said to Ananias about Paul in Acts 9:15

God said he is a chosen vessel unto me to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel.

God revealing his purpose and plan for our life.

Old Testament predictions are all the word of wisdom

The simple gift of prophecy contains no revelation. In it contains edification exhortation and comfort. 2 Cor 14:3

We might not all be in endowed to be a prophet, but we can all edify (build up) exhort and comfort people.

Word of knowledge

The gift of the word of knowledge is a communication from heaven by the Spirit of God of things that are on earth. It reveals a bit of God’s unlimited knowledge about a past or present event or condition. It can be so clear that you know every detail. But it is a gift that is not appreciated by some because it can expose sin.

God knows every man. He knows the footsteps of every man.

Psalms‬ ‭139:1-6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!”

The smallest instance of word of knowledge is when you lose your keys and God tells you where it is.

1 Samuel 10:22

Demonstration of the supernatural

Saul was revealed to the people

“Therefore they inquired of the LORD further, “Has the man come here yet?” And the LORD answered, “There he is, hidden among the equipment.””

‭‭I Samuel‬ ‭10:22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Discerning of spirits

Is a supernatural revelation of the unseen world. We cannot see the unseen realm with our natural eyes but if God gives us this gift then we can look beyond the veil and into the realm of the spirits. It’s just not good spirits. It can be evil spirits. Whatever the spirit wishes to reveal.

It’s the power of God to judge the spirit.

Some people say they can see that or this but it’s really their soul imagining things.

How do you know if it’s a good spirit or not.

How does a child know their moms voice.

Jesus said in John 10:27 I will know their name and they will know my voice they will hear my voice.

God will give you the power to judge.

1 John 4:2

“Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

People have seen the similitude of an image of God himself

Ezekiel 1:26-27 Seeing God

Habakkuk 3:4 forked lightning shooting from his hand-what power hidden in his fist

Acts: 7:55Stephen seeing Jesus

Gen 28:12 Jacob seeing an angel

2 Kings 6:12

And one of his servants said, “None, my Lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.””

‭‭Jesus: John 6:70 it wasn’t the exterior it was on the inside

Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?”

‭‭

All visions are discerning of spirits

.A vision more or less is seeing the unseeable.

Second Grouping: Gifts of Power: Do Something Gifts: Gift of faith, working of miracles and gifts of healing

Gift of Faith: a gift that is filled with power

it is a wonderful gift that has not been fully understood because it is generally confused with natural faith or saving faith

There is of course natural faith which has nothing to do with the Spirit of God at all.

Ex/when someone jumps on a plane for the first time this is the faith that they do not have when they say I am not jumping on a plane unless I have 1 foot on the ground.

Saving Faith

Acts 16:31 Believe on the Lord JC and thou shalt be saved. This faith is different then the gift of faith

Romans‬ ‭1:16‬ ‭KJV‬

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

‭‭

When someone gets saved they only believed one thing that Jesus died on the cross. There will be a lot of things that they don’t believe yet.

Like Jonah in a fishes mouth or Daniel being thrown into a Loins den. or the Hebrews boys being thrown in the fiery furnace.

But as they grow in grace they come to except things they could not believe at first, and go on believing more and more as the fruit of the Spirit develops in their lives. .

Fruit of Faith

There is also the fruit of faith. Gal 5:22-23. The more fruit you bear unto God in the Spirit the more you believe.

It’s the development of faith in the life of the Lord in your heart. God gives us the measure of faith. Your faith can be developed. So you have saving faith, fruit of faith and then the gift of faith.

Heb 11:1

Saving faith comes before salvation. Fruits of faith come after salvation. Gift of faith comes after being filled with the Holy Spirit.

What is the Gift of Faith

The gift of faith can be defined as faith imparted by the Spirit of God for protection in times of danger, or for divine provision, or it may include the ability to impart blessing or bodily transfer.

It is a supernatural gift of the spirit that is received after one has been saved.

It is active faith that passively does a miracle. It’s a gift that causes God to work for you rather than God working through you.

It is given at a moment. And you receive it when it comes. Smith Wigglesworth has stated you know the gift of the faith is coming because you know ahead of time what is going to happen

It is the supernatural operation of Holy Spirit in the experience of the receiver, which enables him to sustain an unwavering trust in God for his personal protection and for the provision of his needs.

It is a gift that is mighty. In its

position in the category of spiritual manifestations it comes before the gifts of healings and the working of miracles.

Do we need the gift of faith for the other gifts to function

Faith is necessary for the operation in all the gifts but that faith is not the gift of faith. They are each separate and distinct but come from the same spirit. The three gifts of power like the gifts of utterance, can all function together or function separately

Is the gift of faith greater then the working of miracles?

It is a much greater gift than the working of miracles because the working of miracles is limited to what God can do through human vessel, but the gift of faith is unlimited I It can call on Omni potent (unlimited powers) powers if you have faith and require their services. They will be at your disposal as you exercise the gift of faith.

It is a remarkable gift because it brings into operation the powers of the world to come. It causes God to work for you not merely through you.

In the Gift of faith the element of danger is often necessary for it to operate except those instances where it overflows and imparts Blessing to the seeker.

The gift of faith can come suddenly and freely. It is a gift that enables one to believe for God to undertake in a supernatural way. It’s not like the fruit of faith that ripens over time.

It is a supernatural operation of the Holy Spirit in the experience of the possessor which enables him to sustain an unwavering trust in God for his personal protection, for the provision of his needs and to impart Blessing.

Acts 12:4-11 Peter

Anytime there are angels involved you see the gift of faith. The gift of faith actually brings into operation the invisible and limitless resources of heaven, so that the one who has that extraordinary faith will have the protection of angels

Daniel 6 The Lion’s Den

Angels closing the lions mouth

Provisions in time of starvation

1 Kings 17 Elijah what is fed by ravens

1 King 19: 5-8 Elijah An angel made him cakes. One that lasted 40 days

Impart Blessing Gen 14:18

Melchizedek imparted the Blessing to Abraham then he passed the Blessing on to Isaac and then to Jacob this was all imparted by the Gift of Faith

The Power to impart the Holy Spirit could doubtless be classified with the power to impart blessing which we included in the gift of faith.

Bodily Transpotation

Also in some exceptional instances it enables its possessor to trust God for bodily transportation

Acts 8:35 Philip

2 Kings 2:11 Elijah being taken up to heaven in a chariot

Gen 5:24 Enoch walked with God and God took him

Heb 11:5 Enoch

Smith Wiggelsworth came to an end to his faith and then the gift was given

the working of miracles is an active gift where it accomplishes the miraculous

the gift of faith is passive it receives the miraculous!!

It’s Important to understand that one gift does not overlap another. Each gift is separate and distinct from others.

Working of Miracles:

It is the supernatural demonstration of the power of God by which the laws of nature are altered, suspended or controlled (except in the sphere of disease)

A lot of people get the working of miracles confused with the gifts of healing.

This is a gift that is active or worked.

The working of miracles is limited to what God can do through a human vessel, but the gift of faith is unlimited it can call on omnipotent unlimited powers if you have faith and require their services.

The gift of faith is one that calls into operation the power of God on ones behalf, the working of miracles is the power of God operating through the individual

In Mark 4:39 For example when Jesus said to the sea Peace, be still. He worked it. It is an active gift. It accomplishes the miraculous.

Look at Mathew 21:19. Let no fruit grow.

Jesus. He didn’t pray. He spoke to the fig tree. It was active

When Jesus stopped the funeral at Nain. Luke 7:14

He didn’t pray for a miracle, it was the working of it.

And then you have the Gifts of Healing

It is the manifestations of the Holy Spirit in this sphere of disease.

Why should healing predominate over miracles in the New Testament?

It’s because the Lord has revealed himself in Christ as the God of love, and love is always concerned with the sufferings of men and women. Miracles demonstrate the power of God, and healings demonstrate his love and compassion.

How are the gifts of healing manifested?

Laying of hands Mark 6:5

Spoken word Matthew 8:8

Through Fabric Acts 19:11-12

Through Shadow Acts 5:16

Should a person who has the gifts of healing lay hands on unbelievers

Yes. When in unconverted person receives healing in his body he is generally more willing to receive the Lord Jesus as his Savior

We often hear it said that we petition the Lord to work supernaturally and yet he may be actually waiting for someone to whom he can work?

Yes. God is seeking for those who thirst for the power of the spirit, who are coveting his gifts.

We must be earnest about spiritual things.

We must pray with a certain intensity and faith before God will work mightily. Math7:7

Also, there might be an occasion where the gift of faith cannot function without a very intense spiritual condition of your soul. Go to Math 17:17-21

Should one classify the casting out of demons under the gifts of healing

Casting out of unclean spirits is not included under healing as the subject is not disease but a demon spirit.

The casting out of unclean spirits should be classified under the gift of faith where spirit forces are dealt with.

Evil spirits are expelled, organs of speech, etc. are often liberated would suggest healing.

Actually of course this is a release rather than a recovery of the diseased organ. In this case the demon has to be dealt with first before deliverance of his disease can take place.

Why is that two people can be prayed for and one is healed and the other is not

Possible the person That was praying become spiritually exhausted after the first prayer and cannot pray the second time with the same strong simple faith.

On the other hand his gifts of healing may not include the two classes of disease, or where the other person being prayed for may not be cooperating in faith or have some unforgiveness and uncofessed sin hindering his blessing

It is possible that one person maybe is being used more specifically in One Direction then in another.

For example Smith Wigglesworth was particularly interested in people who had internal trouble. He often was a little vigorous when he prayed

he would give the sick a good shaking sometimes but he had remarkable faith and praying for people afflicted in this way.

Gifts of Inspiration: (prophecy, speaking in tongues, interpretation of tongues)

Prophecy

The gift of prophecy is the simplest form of inspired utterence is in a known language.

Speaking in a specific way, the gift of prophecy contains no revelation.

1 Cor 14:3-4

“But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:3-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Prophecy is speaking as the Spirit gives utterance it is not in any sense an evidence of a superior intellect.

If a revelation comes through the gift of prophecy, it is not the gift of prophecy that is functioning alone, but two gifts are in manifestation.

For example if I hold two candles together I will have one flame but two sources.

So prophecy can have revelation in it but there will be two gifts functioning together which would be the gift of prophecy which in its simplest form is inspired utterance in a known language and there is the revelation by the word of wisdom or the word of knowledge. Both are functioning together burning as one holy flight. Because this has not been understood people have been confused in their minds respecting prophecy

We could call this lovely gift the poetry of the Spirit. King David had it. It is the Spirit of God touched him on his knees these prayers became Psalms and the Psalms were prophetic. Burning with two candles. The gift of prophecy again in its simplest form is the inspired utterance in a known language and the word of wisdom.

The gift of prophecy is not merely a repetition of scripture verses. Not saying that some scripture verses might come but it is the flow of the spirit as God gives utterence.

Does Phophecy Save

Prophecy has no power to save nor indeed has any of the gifts, but the gifts are signs that point to Christ and Christ is the one who saves. John 6:63

The words that I speak unto you they are spirit and they are life

Is preaching prophesying

No. preaching uses ordinary language where it is not ordinary when we prophesy. There is an inspiration of beauty of expression that is unusual. The language is not in the form in which people usually speak it is poetic

Is there power to save souls in any of the gifts of the Spirit including the gift of prophecy

No. The gifts of the spirit are given for signs and wonders which arrest attention (or another way of saying this it makes people aware to the supernatural) as happened on the day of Pentecost when the multitudes heard the disciple speaking in other tongues and understood many of the languages which were spoken. It draws people in.

Not one was converted until Peter stood up and preached the gospel. So then, the gifts of the Spirit are for the purpose of arresting people’s attention and preaching alone is the vehicle by which people are saved.

Can you improve prophesying by practicing it

No. it is not improved by practice as preaching does. The person under the unction of the spirit can utter a prophecy as beautiful in his first utterance as any he utters throughout his life.

Why? Because the gifts of the Spirit of God are perfect from their inception there is no improvement. With natural gifts are there to be improved

but not so with the supernatural gifts of God

Can prophecy be used in prayer

Yes. Prophecy has often been used in prayer in the prayers of David in the book of Psalms is a perfect example of this

Divers Tongues

Why is it that the entire church of Jesus Christ has not been amazed at this new language?

Let’s go to Isaiah 28:11-12

“For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.”

1 Cor 14:21

“In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In the amplified it says

“No, but [the Lord will teach the rebels in a more humiliating way] by men with stammering lips and another tongue will He speak to this people [says Isaiah, and teach them His lessons]. To these [complaining Jews the Lord] had said, This is the true rest [the way to true comfort and happiness] that you shall give to the weary, and, This is the [true] refreshing–yet they would not listen [to His teaching].”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭28:11-12‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Question

Are these gifts found in the Old Testament as well as the new? The first 7 are found in the old but the last two are not.

When we see him face-to-face so it will no longer be required. .

It would not be possible for us to gather around a pillar of cloud and since God intends the supernatural to be in his church (Body) in constant manifestation. He has put the supernatural upon our very tongues. He has caused us to speak as the Spirit gives us utterance so that everybody where ever he is, may have an evidence of the supernatural upon his tongue.

So it is God who is speaking through the Spirit filled person in other tongues. It is the almighty by the Holy Ghost, who is giving him the amazing power to articulate in a language he has never learned. Yet there are some people who love the Lord Jesus Christ but have no time for this manifestation of the Holy Spirit.

Speaking with other tongues is amazingly supernatural. A person by the power of the Spirit of God speaks in the language he has never learned, he uses a vocabulary that he has not committed to memory, he speaks clearly not hesitantly, but fluently and positively.

Do we ALL speak in tongues when we are filled with Holy Spirit

People that don’t speak in tongues state There is no specific passage of scripture stating that all must speak in tongues when filled with the Holy Spirit. That is true but….

It is significant though to study what happened on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was received by the 120 people.

Go to Acts 1 and 2

‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭AMPC

“But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.”

‬‬

Acts‬ ‭2:2-4‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

“When suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one of them. And they were all filled (diffused: transmitted by a broad light source, throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words].”

‭‭

Acts‬ ‭2:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And they were ALL filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

‭‭

On the day of Pentecost they ALL spoke with other tongues and if we are to carry about with us the evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, then we must continue to speak with tongues in prayer. Everyone should possess this gift and exercise it.

What is the Evidence

Man and woman get married they exchange rings. Those rings are evidence to them that they have vowed to be with each other for life. If one or the other has a wondering eye all they have to do is look down at there ring which will give them the evidence of his or her commitment that will settle the matter.

When your filled with the Holy Spirit the evidence is speaking in tongues.

It is correct and proper to pray for the Holy Spirit rather then for the gift of tongues. Yes. Luke 11:13. The gift of tongues is given to manifest the fact that the HS he has entered the human temple.

Example/ if you asked a buddy to come over you’re not gonna say hey what are you doing tonight want to come on over we’re hanging out and watch the football game and by the way it’s going to be great to hear your voice. When he arrives will hear his voice. Same thing with the Holy Spirit. And we pray for the Holy Spirit to dwell within us as arrival is evidenced by his voice speaking through us in other tongues as a day of Pentecost

The baptism of the holy spirit is evidenced by speaking with other tongues. The evidence, however, should not be confused with the gift. The gift is a public ministry by which one can utter a message in an assembly, and another person, through the gift of interpretation can giv.e the meaning.

This gift of interpretation is a complementary gift to the speaking with other tongues. Without it a person should not speak publicly in tongues, if there is no interpreter present. He may speak once, but if no interpretation is given he should not speak a second time. Better still, let him pray that he might interpret the message himself.

Interpreting

Sometimes the Lord will give you a graphical picture. Very clear and you would describe it in the spirit or supernatural words would come and you would speak them out.

Should every utterance given publicly be interpreted? Every utterance in tongues could have an interpretation, but one must be guided whether it is an order or convenient to interpret every message. There is a limit to the number which should be given by two or at the most three so that we should conform to the word of God. Cor 14:27-28

Why are some messages in other tongues not interpreted?

The answer may be that there is no interpreter present or that the interpreter is not in the spirit at the time so that his gift is not in exercise.

It is wonderful to have a message in tongues with interpretation not that all messages are striking and remarkable, but the fact that God is in manifestation in the church is so encouraging. It is an assurance to us that we are in the line of his will.
